Handiboe-03-2005.jpg

This site was set-up to give SOME info on some HANDIBOE'S-LEWIS' mostly in the DC/MD/VA/NC area's as well as the HANDIBOE'S first state they arrived in OH other's include NY/TX/CA/PA and elsewhere. I have a HANDIBOE surname list at www.rootsweb.com and several GEDCOM'S which I try to update when I receive new info re: Some HANDIBOE'S-LEWIS'.

Both William R & Lora M. LEWIS-HANDIBOE were b. in DC and William's & Lora's  father as well.  Gladys Lavenia STONER-HANDIBOE or "Stonie" was born in PG Co., MD, however it appears her birth-due to that "period" was required to be registered in DC. My mother Marie Louise ELFERS-LEWIS (Birth name Annibrita d'WAINIO) was born in NYC & "adopted in 1925.

I have info mostly 19th & 20th century but in some cases back to 18th century in US -some info in Ireland, Purssia,Germany, Finland, etc.

Also, I have some info on various LEWIS' and some other "surname's" names in the Civil-War both Confederate & Union.

I currently am trying to research certain one's in the Confederacy-BUT naturally come across both in the DC area-DC was "UNION" during the CIVIL-WAR- Maryland was also "UNION" and of course Virginia & North Carolina were CONFEDERATE states. I belong to Southern HERITAGE and get their "newsletter" I also belong to Genealogy, ancestry, gencircles, familysearch & Civil-War data sites.
Some of the other "Surname's" I have "limited info on R
ARNOLD,BALLENGER,BISSETT,CLARK,ELFERS,HENNINGS,JACK,KIRBY,LARMAN,LAWLOR,LITTLE,MCCLOSKEY,STONER,TEEPLE,WAINIO,WUYEK & more.

Howard Irving LEWIS, my father's natural/legitimate father was a Joseph Irvin LEWIS,(b.@1898 in DC.) who's father was a John M. LEWIS b. 1872 in DC & a "twin", John's father was a John Henry LEWIS b. Portsmouth,VA in 1835>(John H. LEWIS mar., a Mary Francis EMMERSON of Portsmouth, VA) though a few record's may vary-> John Henry LEWIS' father was a Solomon LEWIS b. Jamestown, VA.  I believe that Solomon's father was a Captain or Col. LEWIS b. VA

HANDIBOE-LEWIS- Some "amateur" genealogy info on SOME --HANDIBOE'S & LEWIS' as well as many other's surname's. Also some limited info on some CONFEDERATE'S & UNION soldier's, sailor's CIVIL-WAR-US.
The original HANDIBOE'S came from IRELAND & into CANADA then to Columbus, Ohio in early 1830's. They were James & Mary WALSH-HANDIBOE.
I have some LEWIS info and related families back to the 1700's, in some cases. The area's that are predominate, however in my GEDCOM'S are DC/MD/VA/NC/OH/NY/TX and other's in the US.

I have a HANDIBOE list of info I have collected at http://www.rootsweb.com and a family book at World Family Tree. i HAVEN'T COMPLETED MY RESEARCH- please feel free to add appropriate corrects/comments- ONLY relevant PLEASE.
